Agenda

The world is going through the first global crisis of the history. Recently, a number of academics, bureaucrats and politicians have been working on the impacts and potential impacts of the crisis as well as the measures to be taken to tackle the crisis.

TEPAV started to study on the crisis in 2008. Experts studying on different fields came together under the TEPAV Global Crisis Working Group to effectuate the studies done on the crisis since mid-2008. To the group coordinated by Prof.Dr. Fatih Özatay; Ozan Acar, Esen Çağlar, Hasan Ersel, Sarp Kalkan, Haki Pamuk, Güven Sak, Selin Sayek, Süreyya Serdengeçti, Zeren Tatar and Eray Yücel made valuable contributions.

As a result of the studies carried out by the TEPAV Global Crisis Working Group, 6 evaluation notes have been published so far. The notes listed below were shared on tour website tepav.org.tr:

While TEPAV Global Crisis Working Group continued studying on the crisis, the need for a macro simulation model to explain the results come on the agenda. Last year, with the contributions of Selin Sayek from Bilkent University, TEPAV-Makro1 model was prepared. Now, we have a macroeconomic framework through which the potential impact of the measures taken or to be taken and in which the whole impact analysis can be placed.

In preparing our latest study “Crisis Measures for the Turkish Economy” we employed this model. The report, which is the most comprehensive study of Working Group so far, evaluated the impacts of the crisis as well as of the potential measures.

All studies of TEPAV Global Crisis Working Group have been compiled at this website to facilitate access. And you can see our new studies as well here at this site.

It seems that the crisis will continue to be the top priority agenda item of Turkey and TEPAV, just as it is all around the world. While some developments can be identified clearly during the process, some can only be identified in time, as the crisis ends. To put it differently, we will observe the value of the findings reached and forecasts and recommendations made in the upcoming years.

In the meanwhile, we hope that our studies will be criticized by other individuals or groups and pave the way for other findings, recommendations and reports.
