TEPAV organized its fourth meeting in a series of meetings evaluating the Turkish-American relations before and after the American presidential elections. Fourth meetings' main speaker was Mr. Abdullah Akyuz, the President of TUSIAD-US. In the past, TEPAV organized meetings on the same subject with the participation of scholars such as Stephen Solarz, Soner Cagaptay, and Bulent Aliriza. In the first part of his speech, Akyuz shared his thoughts on the legacy Obama took over from the earlier administration. In the second part, Akyuz mentioned the potential policies that Obama will implement right after taking office in January 2009. According to Akyuz, among these policies are the 50 million dollar financial aid aimed for the "Main Street", the ordinary man on the street affected seriously by the recent financial crisis. The financial aid is followed by further investments on education, infrastructure and job creation. After listing the domestic policy priorities, Akyuz talked about Obama's potential foreign policy priorities and mentioned that there will be serious repercussions of Obama's presidency on the relations with Iran and the Russian Federation. In the last part of his speech, Akyuz talked about the Turkish-American relations and stressed that the most important difficulty facing the bilateral relations is due to the fact that there is no clear framework defining the Turkish-American relations since the end of the Cold War.
