Think 20 Summit TEPAV convenes the Think 20 Antalya Summit on Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and the G20.

The Think 20 Summit was held in Antalya, Turkey from November 14, 2015. The summit was co-organized by TEPAV and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and brought together  high-level government officials, multilateral institutions and  the private sector.

At a critical time between the approval of SDGs in New York in September and COP21 Summit in Paris in December, and one day before the G20 Summit, the T20 Summit - Antalya Global Policy Dialogue Platform Conference focused on  aligning the G20’s  work with the 2030 Agenda and the G20’s role in implementing the SDGs.

The Summit started with welcoming remarks by Güven Sak, T20 Chair and TEPAV Managing Director and Kemal Malhotra, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Turkey.

The first session, “Implementing the SDG Agenda: The International Policy Issues” highlighted the need to further strengthen links between the G20 and the 2030 UN agenda.  St to give impetus to efforts of G20 countries towards realizing the SDGs. Panellists included Angel Gurria, Secretary-General of OECD,  Cevdet Yılmaz, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey,  Hector Timerman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, John Danilovich, Secretary-General of International Chamber of Commerce,  Nhlanhla Musa Nene, Minister of Finance of Republic of South Africa, Shamshad Akhtar, G20 Sherpa of United Nations and Vuk Jeremic, Ex-President of United Nations General Assembly.

The second session “Implementing the SDG Agenda: the Role of the Private Sector”,  emphasized private sector contributions in the implementation of the SDGs. Lord Mark Malloch Brown, Former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP,  Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of SEB, Sam Walsh, CEO of Rio Tinto, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder & Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Peder Nielsen, CEO of Novozymes and Yi Zhihong, Vice President of Renmin University of China provided private sector perspectives.

At the following handover ceremony of the Think20 from T20 Turkey to the three institutions that will lead T20 China in 2016  Guven Sak was joined by  Yuyan Zhang, Director, Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Zhang Haibing, Deputy Director of the Institute for Economic Comparative Studies, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and Wang Wen, Executive Dean, Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY). Panellists discussed the G20 and the T20 priorities of the Turkish Presidency in 2015 and the upcoming Chinese Presidency in 2016.
