EU - Economic Assessment of the REACH Regulation on the Chemicals Industry of Turkey (ERCIT)

Overall objectives are:

• To strengthen contact and mutual exchange of experience between civil societies of Turkey and with those of the member states of the EU with special focus on the implementation of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation;
• To ensure better knowledge and understanding of EU, more specifically the REACH regulation, within Turkey in order to build awareness of the opportunities and challenges;
• To ensure better knowledge and understanding about Turkey, especially the chemicals industry of Turkey, within the European Union, thus allowing a better awareness of the opportunities and challenges of future enlargement.

Specific Objectives are:

• To accelerate the acquisition of analytical skills and know-how (through joint researches carried out by partners) related to the REACH regulation by Turkish universities, research centers and think-tanks, through cooperation with EU universities
• To carry out joint researches in cooperation with local and foreign partners;
• To encourage exchange of knowledge and best practices on planning and implementation of REACH regulation in Turkey
• To explore the possible effects of the REACH regulation on the technical legislation regarding the Free Movement of Goods chapter of the EU Acquis;
• To establish and strengthen long-term sustainable cooperation and partnerships between the local and foreign partners of the project;

To strengthen the consent in the Turkish civil society regarding the EU priorities for environment preservation and sustainable development by awareness raising and roadmap preparation activities that accelerate the implementation of the REACH regulation.
