Süreyya Serdengeçti holds a BS degree from Middle East Technical University and an MA degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University.
Serdengeçti started to work in the CBRT Foreign Debt Deferring Department in 1980. Mr. Serdengeçti worked at the foreign exchange reserve management department at the CBRT as of 1986. He was assigned as Director of Foreign Exchange Transactions in 1990, as Director of Open Market Operations in 1992, as Vice Secretary General in 1994 and as Secretary General Press Officer. At the same year, he was assigned as Vice General Director in the Directorate General for Foreign Relations and worked within the fields of Balance of Payments and International Institutions. Süreyya Serdengeçti became the General Director for Markets in May 1996. His responsibilities included international reserve management, exchange rate and interventions, interbank money market, open market operations and Treasury tenders. As of January 1998, Mr. Serdengeçti, along with his responsibilities as General Director of Markets, worked as Vice President responsible for Directorate General for Loans, Information Processing and Statistics. Mr. Serdengeçti served as the President of Central Bank of Republic of Turkey between 14 March 2001 and 14 March 2006.
Süreyya Serdengeçti joined TEPAV in 2006 and is the Director of the Stability Institute. Serdengeçti also is a senior faculty member in TOBB University of Economics and Technology and is a Board of Management Consultant at TOBB.
