Job Summary: This position will be involved with current projects on hand and other think tank activities within TEPAV. The most critical requirement for this position is to be a self-motivated researcher. Although specialization in certain subjects will occur over time by working in varying TEPAV projects with an ongoing training process, the first expectation is to have pattern-seeking capabilities in varying economics, social and socioeconomic topics and being able to help develop policy proposals by using analytical tools under the guidance of the project and program directors. The successful candidate will be reliable, exceptionally organized, and have an interest in economics, statistics, data analysis, and international relations. Strong analysing and writing skills are required. A strong command of English is mandatory.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Compiling and analysing data, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing and communicating policy proposals
  • Undertaking quantitative analysis by employing structured and unstructured data (descriptive statistics, big data analyses, etc.)
  • Developing a pattern-seeking behaviour by employing coding and data manipulation and processing techniques
  • Translating academic research into relevant policy options through reviewing, analysing, and evaluating policy schemes in varying contexts (e.g., between countries)
  • Producing information by generating, transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics
  • Demonstrating analytical rigor, intellectual creativity, and contributing original ideas
  • Maintaining an open-minded attitude towards new ideas
  • Generating new ideas, seeking new approaches and introducing and promoting them at TEPAV
  • Working closely with Policy Analysts and Project Coordinators to complete tasks

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with strong academic standing
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing in English and Turkish
  • Demonstrated interest for analytics
  • Intellectual curiosity, along with excellent problem-solving and quantitative skills
  • Positive, flexible, get-it-done attitude
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills is a plus (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Coding/programming skills is a plus (SPSS, Stata, R, Python, SAS, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team across the organization collaboratively
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, often changing environment

Policy Analyst

Job Summary: This position will be involved with current projects on hand and other think tank activities within TEPAV. It is also expected from the successful candidate to initiate new research either in the format of projects or think tank activities. A proven record of specializing at least in one policy area, ability to initiate and attain project deliverables with minimum supervision is expected. Pattern-seeking capabilities in varying economics and socioeconomic topics and developing policy proposals by using analytical approaches are required. A strong command of English is mandatory.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identification, assessment and preparation of new project/research study opportunities with regard to TEPAV’s strategy
  • Coordination of proposal writing and budget preparation together with the research staff and the directors
  • Liaising with various stakeholders and clients for ongoing and potential research projects
  • Conveying a good grasp of academic and economic policy issues especially in the areas of economic development, sustainability, competitiveness, foreign economic relations, and human development (including labour market and education)
  • Taking results to a logical and relevant end product, with minimum supervision
  • Contributing to and leading the creation of deliverables, including reports, newsletters, spreadsheets, presentations and other outputs to document and effectively communicating findings
  • Helping manage/coach new Research Associates and Interns
  • Working independently, sometimes receiving general instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments with a focus on tasks and self-contained work streams

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or PhD degree preferred
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing in English and Turkish
  • Positive, flexible, get-it-done attitude
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must
  • Work experience and profound knowledge on the EU or other internationally funded projects
  • Distinctive communications skills and ability to communicate analytical and technical content in an easy-to-digest manner
  • Distil key messages for strategic action from complex data sets and issues
  • Ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, often changing environment
  • Advanced project planning and time management skills
  • Strong people skills, team-orientation, and professional attitude
  • Good sense of humour and ability to multitask are essential elements of this position
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is expected
