TOBB/WB/The Competition Authority -Competitiveness, Competition Policy and Investment Climate

Completed project (January 2005 - April 2007)

The overall objective was to assess the competition conditions in the Turkish economy at a sectoral level and to develop policy recommendations for improving competition policy and its implementation. The project involved two phases.

  • The first phase included detailed analysis of competitive structure and the role of competition policy in four key sectors: Telecommunications, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), electricity and airlines. In addition, the legal and institutional aspects of competition policy, as well as the general snapshot analysis of competitiveness, competition and the role of investment climate in Turkey have been analyzed. The first phase had been concluded with the presentation of the studies in an international conference and the publishing of the studies first as working papers then a book.
  • In addition to involving a deeper analysis of the sectors studied in the first phase, the second phase also focused on other sectors, such as energy and pharmaceuticals.

The results of the studies gave policymakers and the private sector alike a complete picture of these sectors and enabled them to take more informed decisions.

TEPAV, in addition to conducting a significant part of the analysis, had also made sure that the work of the local and international consultants are in line with the client's needs.
