Women Outpace Men in Job Gains The number of women in insured employment increased year-on-year by 238,000 reaching 3,324,000 as of the end of April.

ANKARA – The number of women in insured employment increased year-on-year by 238,000 (7.7 percent) and month-on-month by 21,000 (0.6 percent), reaching 3,324,000 as of the end of April.

 

The 29th issue of the TEPAV Employment Monitoring Bulletin reports that the leader in women’s employment growth was the building and landscape activities sector with an increase of 63,000 (62 percent). This was followed by retail trade sector with an increase of 29,000; education with 24,000; and food and beverages services sector with 20,000. Concerning percentage growth, the sharpest change in women’s employment was in the public administration and defense; compulsory social security sector with a growth of 118 percent. This was followed by domestic work activities, services incidental to mining, and building and landscape activities sectors.

Antalya Ahead of Ankara and Izmir in Women’s Employment Growth

Insured employment across women increased in 73 provinces and decreased in 8 year-on-year. The highest increase was in Istanbul with 84,000; followed by Antalya with 15,000. Antalya therefore outperformed Ankara and Izmir. Considering year-on-year percentage change, Batman was the best performer with a 20 percent growth in women’s employment. The sharpest year-on-year drop was observed in Ardahan, followed by Ağrı, Artvin, Muş, Erzincan, Bayburt, Kırşehir, and Rize.

Highest Share of Women in Employment in Edirne

Concerning the share of women in total employment in the province, Edirne had the highest rate with 33.1 percent and was followed by Denizli, Izmir, Istanbul, Karaman, and Kırklareli. The lowest rate of women in employment was in Şırnak, with 9.6 percent; followed by Siirt, Mardin, Bitlis, Van, and Ağrı. Out of the 15 provinces where women have the lowest share in employment, 9 are in the East Anatolia region and 4 in the Southeast Anatolia region. Kahramanmaraş and Yozgat are also on the list.

Eskişehir has the highest rate of women among shop keepers and artisans

With 27.4 percent, Eskişehir had the highest rate of women among the total number of shopkeepers and artisans. The city was followed by Yalova, Bilecik, Izmir, Uşak, and Çanakkale. The lowest rate was 5.4 percent, in Siirt. Following Siirt were Şırnak, Bitlis, Van, Hakkâri, Ağrı. Similar to the picture in overall insured employment, 14 out of 15 cities with the lowest share of women among shopkeepers and artisans were in East and Southeast Anatolia regions.

Rize ranks first in terms of the rate of women among agricultural workers

Concerning the rate of female agricultural workers in total agricultural employment, Rize ranked first with a rate of 43.3 percent. Following the city were Bartın, Karabük, Zonguldak, Burdur, and Trabzon. Among the 15 provinces where the share of women in agricultural employment is the highest, 9 are in the Black Sea region. Siirt was the worst performer also concerning the share of women among agricultural workers. This city was followed by Van, Ağrı, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, and Kars.

The share of women in total public employment highest in Izmir

Having surpassed Istanbul, Izmir had the highest rate of women in overall public employment with a rate of 40.9 percent. The city was followed by Istanbul, Antalya, Bursa, Aydın, and Denizli. The lowest rate was in Hakkari (12.5 percent). Following Hakkari were Şırnak, Siirt, Bingöl, Bayburt, and Tunceli. Out of 15 provinces which has the lowest share of women in public employment, 12 are located in the East and Southeast Anatolia regions.
