TEPAV Launches a Tourism Project: 3-D Visualization of Ankara’s Landmarks The project funded by Ankara Development Agency and DÖSİMM aims to develop policy proposals to increase the competitiveness of capital Ankara and design mobile applications for tourists.

ANKARA – TEPAV, jointly with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Central Directorate of Revolving Funds (DÖSİMM) embarked on a new project which will promote Ankara through innovative methods and improve the perceptions about cultural and historical values in the city.

The one-year project “Increasing the Competitiveness of Cultural and Historical Landmarks of Ankara and Promoting through Innovative Methods” is funded by Ankara Development Agency and DÖSİMM. Within the context of the project distinguished with its innovative dimension, a mobile application which will enable 3-D mapped visualization of 30 important places and landmarks of Ankara via mobile phones and tablet computers.

The project has two main components:

-          To conduct a field study in 10 sites with the aim to outline the tourism potential and competitiveness of the chosen sites and design policies to improve the city image of Ankara;

-          To design a mobile application that will enable users to make a virtual tour of the city so as to promote the touristic and cultural values of Ankara with an efficient and innovative method.

The results of the field study as well as policy suggestions will be shared with policy-makers and the public. The mobile application will involve a map showing important historical places, museums, city symbols, cultural and art centers, religious places and other selected institutions. The application will enable 3-D visualization of 30 important places and landmarks of Ankara via mobile phones and tablet computers. In addition, users will be able to make a visual tour of 10 places among these. This application which will enable users to design their own routes will be bilingual (Turkish and English) and will be compatible with IOS and Android platforms. A website explaining the project and how to use the mobile application will also be launched.
