TOBB - Improving the Competition in the Turkish Machinery Sector

The project will be realized within the scope of the communiqué announced by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Economy named Fostering the Improvement of International Competitiveness. The beneficiaries of the project are the chambers of commerce and industry in 13 provinces that represent 82% of the machinery producers in Turkey. These are namely Ankara Chamber of Industry, Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Çorum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ege Bölgesi Chamber of Industry, Adana Chamber of Industry, Eskişehir Chamber of Industry, Gaziantep Chamber of Industry, Gebze Chamber of Commerce, İstanbul Chamber of Industry, Kayseri Chamber of Industry, Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, Konya Chamber of Industry and Tekirdağ Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The main objective of the Project is to contribute to the design of policies that has the potential of enhancing the competitive power of the firms producing machinery in these provinces. The statistical, and foreign trade  data that is available and the data to be collected from the field studies will be analyzed, and the main sub sectors of the machinery sector in each province will be identified along with evaluating the investment climate in each province and Turkey. Based on this evaluation it is expected that not only the bottlenecks that hinder the potential growth of each subsector in the related provinces will be diagnosed, but how these constraints can be overcome and how additional measures can open up the venue for exploiting further the available potential will be determined. It is intended that these measures will constitute a basis in each of the subsectors for individual project applications of the beneficiaries within the scope of the communiqué.

In addition to individual reports evaluating the competitiveness of major machinery sub-sectors in each province and suggesting measures to improve its competitiveness, it will be possible to make inferences related to the general situation of the machinery sector in Turkey and possible policies to improve the competitive position of each machinery subsector for Turkey.

Type of Services

  • Collecting and analyzing current statistical and foreign trade data to evaluate the current situation in the relevant machinery sub-sectors in  each province,
  • Conducting surveys to fill in the data gap to understand and evaluate the current situation and the investment climate in the machinery subsectors of the selected provinces and analyzing the data obtained by these surveys,
  • Preparing reports indicating the potential of each province in the machinery sector, and diagnosing the bottlenecks that hinder the companies in each subsector in reaching the potential as well as preparing roadmaps that pave the way to overcome these bottlenecks by analyzing the information and data obtained,
  • Preparing the Turkish Machinery Sector Evaluation Report.
