WB - Turkey Urbanization Review Project

Origin of funding: World Bank

The Project on Turkey Urbanization Review is one of a series of prototypes within a global Urbanization Review being developed by the World Bank. This global review focuses on a set of urbanization outcomes and challenges faced by a country during its journey from the incipient to advanced stages of urbanization.

The objective of the work is to examine urban transformation in Turkey and provide diagnostic tools to inform the policy dialogue and urbanization investment priorities. Within the scope of this study, Turkey Urbanization Review Report will be prepared and the Report will include five discussion notes focusing on: a) Governance of Spatial Organization, b)Urban Transport, c) City Competitiveness, d)Financing of Cities, e) Land, Real Estate, Urban Planning.

Throughout the project, on each of the topics above, TEPAV in cooperation with the World Bank provides discussion notes and the aim is to discuss each discussion note at five different workshops. At the end of the study, discussion notes will be finalized and make up the final report.

Within the scope of the project, the following services will be provided:

  • Building a collaboration mechanism between the  World Bank, the main actors in public sector and academia in Turkey;
  • Literature review and legislation review;
  • Interviews with ministries, municipalities, universities, academicians and NGOs;
  • Analysis of the data gathered from local and central institutions;
  • Preparing discussion notes and identifying the key issues;
  • Organizing workshops for each discussion topic;
  • Data analysis and providing policy recommendations.
