TOBB/TEPAV Delegation at the Joint CSIS/NDI Meeting

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) delegation that made a visit to the United States attended a meeting organized jointly by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) on September 18, 2007. The meeting titled "Turkey after the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections" focused on likely developments in Turkey after the parliamentary elections on July 22 and the election of a new president on August 28. The keynote speech was made by the President of TOBB, Mr. Rifat Hisarciklioglu, who was introduced by Dr. John Hamre, the President of the CSIS. The first panel, Political Outlook, was chaired by Nelson Ledsky, the Director of NDI Eurasia Programs, and featured Fehmi Koru of Yeni Safak, Murat Yetkin of Radikal and Yalcin Dogan of Hurriyet. The second panel, Economic Outlook, was chaired by Bulent Aliriza, the Director of the CSIS Turkey Project, and featured Mr. Sureyya Serdengecti, the former head of the Central Bank of Turkey and Prof. Guven Sak, the Director of the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) and a former member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Turkey.
