ANKARA – The iyiYatırım Angel Investment Summit” the first of which was held in Istanbul last year was carried out in Ankara on Friday, 11 January 2013. The Summit hosted by TEPAV brought together angel investors with the aim to contribute to the creation of angel investment ecosystem in capital Ankara and join businesspeople interested in angel investing.

The Summit organized in cooperation by TEPAV and the Endeavor Foundation took start with the opening speeches by Ussal Şahbaz, TEPAV Economic Policy Analyst, Ebru Özdemir, member of executive board at Limak Inc and Endeavor Turkey and Turgut Çatalkaya, Vice President at Akbank SME Marketing.

The keynote speakers were Robert Okabe and John May of Angel Resource Institute, which operates under the auspices of the Kauffman Foundation with the objective to carry out conferences and training programs about angel investing worldwide. Okabe and May gave brief information about the development process of angel investing in advanced countries and emphasized the importance of these for entrepreneurship finance.

The second session during which the angel investing experiences in Turkey were discussed hosted Ömer Faruk Akarca; Galata Business Angels’ member, Kazım Yalçınoğlu; Metutech-ban Business Angels Network member, Tümay Asena; Nokia Inc.’s CEO and John May, Honorary President of Angel Capital Association.

Burak Büyükdemir, Founder of e-Tohum Joachim Behrendt, member of GBA, Yüksel Dibekoğlu; Director of i-Lab Ventures and Yavuz Kaynar; Principal Banker at EBRD Venture Capital Investment Programme shared their experiences in another session.

One of the most interesting sessions during the panel hosted a lively debate on angel investing and state support. During this session, Hakan Ertürk, Head of Financial Instruments and Markets Development Department at Undersecretariat of Treasury shared information on the Individual Participation Capital Regulation.

Following the Summit, a cocktail was carried out at TOBB ETÜ Garaj.
