Director of Migration Research Center
M. Murat Erdoğan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Science in 1986. Between 1987 and 2017, Erdoğan served as a faculty member at Hacettepe University (HU), and from 2017 to 2022 at the Turkish-German University (TAU). A political scientist and migration researcher, Erdoğan served as the founding director of the H.U. Migration and Politics Research Center-HUGO (2009-2017), the TAÜ Migration and Integration Research Center-TAGU (2017-2022), and the Ankara University Faculty of Political Science Migration Research Center-MUGAM (2022-2024). Erdoğan, whose academic interests include voluntary and forced migration, refugees, people of Turkish origin abroad, EU-Turkey relations, political cartoons, political behavior, and German and Turkish foreign policy, conducts comprehensive and regular public opinion surveys on the Turkish diaspora in Europe titled “Euro-Turks-Barometer” and on Syrians in Turkey titled “Syrians Barometer”.
Prof. Erdoğan, who completed his doctoral research in Germany as a Konrad Adenauer Foundation fellow, has conducted academic studies as a visiting researcher at the University of Duisburg-Essen (2007), Humboldt University of Berlin (2010 and 2019), Oxford University (2012), and Johns Hopkins University (AICGS) (2014), and as a fellow at SWP (German Foundation for Science and Policy) CATS in Berlin (2022-2023).
Erdoğan has been serving as the Director of the Migration Research Center since May 2026.
